Hurled to the Sidelines

10 Aug

Not for Everybody…
Everything doesn’t work out as we have planned. Sometimes things get pretty screwed up, I mean totally messed up. We can do everything we can to avoid hardships, but they may invade our lives at any given time. Even when we have done our best, there is no guarantee it is all going to come together. This is not a life of predictable outcomes, people get hurt, and people die whom we have loved the most. Life is filled with all sorts of real set-backs. It’s in these moments, when we are hurled to the sidelines of life, that we can gain a perspective on how things really are. Like: what‘s really motivating us, why are we doing what we are doing, and also we will have a better read on what others are experiencing in life. It doesn’t all work out for everybody, things get broken, people get taken for granted, and the list goes on & on… For those who have been set aside, broken down, or marginalized, there is a shinning glimmer of hope. God promises He will be there. It may not be in the same way that “religious people” have portrayed this to be, but He will embrace those who are being crushed. His word specifically declares that His Spirit is Close to (Hovering Over) those who are being broken. God is present, He has never left. It may not be sell-able from a marketing standpoint, nor should it be, but God is Embracing those who are at the brink of total devastation. “In This” oh Lord, you are near. When the pain gets so bad and a breathless cry is all we have left, God hears us and promises that He will continue to be with us. This is a place of total damasking, all facades are removed, the ultimate reality check. We are human indeed, we are truly alive, and the hurt is oh so real. God’s Grace must be the destination, because all other venues seem to be nothing but silly pursuits. But this is not what we were planning on, we may say. God brings Grace! For all of life is gift, even in this we are privileged, because we are brought to the ultimate understanding that no matter how painful our experience and circumstances may be, we now have nowhere to run except into the presence of a loving, caring, holy God. Grace is His touch that we are accepted, valued, & loved. No performing, pretending, or posturing is necessary. In this pursuit we find that life truly is a gift, a privilege, and an amazing experience. We may have massive brokenness to get cleaned up, and it may take many years to clean it up, but we have the ever knowing conformation that God is with us, in us, and for us. This can bring peace to our souls that everything will be OK, but not the same way we may have thought of it to be in the past. It will all be OK because we are in God’s presence, and have always been, but we are now just realizing it. We can face our fears and rough realities with our arms and eyes wide open, knowing He is with us. As we embrace our circumstances we can bring with us the presence of God’s Grace and share our understanding that God is here, He has never left, and we can find Him…Even in this. Hopefully, as we go through our toughest circumstance we will learn to look into other peoples lives with a more compassionate and understanding lens (non-critical) and be willing to reach out and Engage & Embrace. Grace & Peace.
